What are Your Absolutes?

It’s 3:55am

I’m on the way to the gym. Today we’re going to revisit the decision-making process of going to the gym in a non-negotiable way.

Most people think I’m nuts when I tell them that I train at 4:00am. Although that may be somewhat true, that’s not the point I’m trying to make here. 

The point I’m trying to make here is that going to the gym every morning at 4:00am isn’t a decision for me. It’s an absolute.

 

Monday-Friday Absolute

I train at Old School Gym at 4:00am Monday through Friday. That’s what I do and how I operate. There’s zero daily decision-making happening here. It’s automatic. It’s muscle memory.

Do I get tired? Absolutely, we all have mornings where you literally have to drag your ass out of bed. You will inevitably experience the days where your body is tired… physically and mentally. 

I don’t go to the gym on the weekends. I’ll stick to GPP, lunges, and personal development, but going to the gym Monday through Friday is one of my absolutes.

 

Don’t Give Yourself the Choice

Most people don’t process it this way. They rely on making a daily decision.

Why is that a problem? It’s much easier to give yourself a way out. It’s much easier to justify why you shouldn’t go to the gym that day. There will never be a shortage of excuses.

If you have any plans of truly getting better, then you must reframe your thinking. Don’t give yourself the option, give yourself an absolute. That’s how you instill true change. 

I have more of a decision of what sweatshirt I'm going to wear versus if I'm going to the gym or not.

 

Take a Piece

I get it, I’m on the extreme end of the spectrum. Even so, I encourage you to take even the smallest piece from what I’m saying here and apply it to your life. Doing so will help you push yourself to be better, be healthier, and live a better life.

Stop telling yourself “Maybe.” Make it binary… it’s either “Yes” or “No.”

Think about the progress you could make if you implemented a few absolutes in your life. I’m telling you, it’s the ultimate difference-maker.

 

What’s the Secret?

People have been asking me for years what my secret was to keeping myself in shape and staying motivated. One of my answers is, “I don't do anything special, I just don't fucking miss.”

When you start something, don’t quit. Stay consistent with it. Consistency and self-discipline go hand in hand.

Am I 100% lights-out every time I set foot in the gym? Hell no! But I’m there, which means I’m not getting worse.

At the end of the day, it comes down to making a daily commitment. Will you make it?
